2009 FUND RAISING EVENTS

Annual Dinner Dance            14th March         The Powder Mill, Battle
Good food, great company and plenty to drink all lent themselves to a good night out. See some pics from the night by clicking here

Tea Dances           See below for dates           Robertsbridge Social Club
April 15th, May 20th, June 17th, July 15th, August 19th, September 16th, October 21st, December 16th
About the third Wednesday of each month, our resident DJ will play a selection of dance tunes for villagers to Fox Trot their way around the dance floor. We even provide talcum powder for the floor to help glide your partner around. Come along for a nostalgic afternoon of dance, tea and biscuits. Apparently there is a bit of gossip as well.

Quiz Night               4th April                      Robertsbridge Village Hall
Get your teams together for the re-introduction of a Grand Quiz Night. Massage those grey cells and start reading the encyclopaedia. The evening will include a team quiz, ploughman’s supper, a raffle and bar, all for the entry price of £5.00 per person. The teams will be a max. six members, if you can’t make the number, we can put you into teams on the night. Book your place with Sue Paine at 01580 880491

Old Folks Lunch              10th May              Robertsbridge Social Club
Not a fund raising event, more of a thank you to our older members and folk of the village. A hearty lunch is prepared and served to about 50 pensioners by a band of volunteers, followed by live entertainment, bingo, tea and biscuits. A great afternoon that is a lot of hard work but great fun and, I am sure, appreciated by the folk.

Auction of Promises            22nd May                           The George
Great evening last year, the change of venue boosted our takings, supported by some professional auctioneers. Rogers still disappointed to have missed out on the Robertsbridge Post Office sign, perhaps it will come up again. We hope to have some big ticket items to attract the spend-a-holics amongst you.

Another event at the Village Hall           6th June
At the time of going to press we didn’t have a specific event, although we are looking at horse racing, a dance, another quiz or anything that will entertain and give us a good night entertainment. Any ideas welcome!

Golf Tournament            24th June             Hemsted Forest Golf Club
A new event, this promises to be a popular competition and a lot of fun. Basically a Four Ball Team competition, plus individual prizes for best score, nearest the pin, longest drive, on one of the best courses in Kent. Be careful of the greens, it’s like putting on glass. Mid week date with a snack lunch, 18 hole competition and evening meal in the superb club restaurant. How about entering a team, or sponsoring a hole. Details will be circulated soon so book the day off work and get practising.

Robertsbridge Flower, Produce and Dog Show              5th September                                                                      Robertsbridge Village Hall
A bit damp last year but we still managed a turnout, especially for the Ceilidh in the evening. We will do the same again this year and I defy anyone not to get up and join in.

During the day there will be stalls selling nicks and knacks, refreshing pimms went down well last year, must have been the young ladies encouraging you to quench your thirst. The dog show is getting bigger every year, so come on chaps get your owners to parade and win you a prize. The battle for the best produce, flowers, cakes and artistic representation will be keenly fought once again. It would be nice to see new faces entering a category or two. It promises to be a great day and lots of fun for every one.

Carol Singing                     20th December                All over the village
Only a few brave souls came out last year on a wet and miserable evening that was a bit late going around the village. Why not book an appointment for the carol singers to come round and knock on you door? A few songs, a hearty cheer and a rattle of the collection box. Let’s see if we can organise a route map around the village to households that appreciate a good tune.

Christmas Hamper Draw    20th December    Robertsbridge Social Club
This will coincide with the Robertsbridge Club draw and promises to be another great night of entertainment. Tickets will be available in plenty of time for you to sell!

Bonfire preparation
In September we will start organising the preparation parties, Faggotting, Torch making, Torch dipping and Firework Training. If you are able to give any help in these areas it would be gratefully received. Talk to any committee member or come along to a meeting to find out when, where and how.
